If a slate countertop is sealed with linseed oil, it’s a good idea to seal it with a five year, food safe certified. I, now, seal the island after honing it with 100, 200, and 400 grit diamond resin pads. The smooth, clean finish is very attractive. Please, hone your marble countertops when scratches and etches become unbearable.
Man made stone, Quartz brand, etc., are, supposedly maintenance free, but when they do stain they are much more difficult to repair than marble. Marble is best. Granite, even though it is a much harder stone, but when stain issues happen, repair becomes difficult. Marble is best for two reasons. One, marble has the most beautiful colors and patterns. Two, marble is easily repairable.

I scrub the floor with a mild abrasive and a bristle brush attached to an electric hand machine. The kitchen island is grind job to remove etches and scratches. Then, the guys apply the gloss, Tuffskin onto the presealed stone.
